A page featuring galleries and links for cycle tours undertaken during August 2023.
I ride regularly, and I do not necessarily post a web page for each tour I do.
I do post to Facebook, Garmin Connect, Strava and occasionally to Komoot and Instagram.
Gö Gravel Social Ride – Sans Frontières – August 27 2023
The Gö Gravel social ride crossed 9 known borders some lost and others still active. None of which required a visa or a payment of tax to cross as was the case in time past.
We rode into and out of Hesse, Lower Saxony, and Thuringia, and at one point we were in all three at the same time!
Also, on route we ventured into what was once the DDR and the heavily militarised Iron Curtain. A major feature was riding a stretch of fearsome Kolonnenweg, the old military road that ran the length of the Iron Curtain in Germany.
Danke for the company: Josh, Andrea, Jonas, Isa, Alex, Henny, Rollo, Franz, Konstantin, Tobias, Chris, Ida, Craig, Patrick, and Andreas.

The Gö Internationale ride an Evening Omloop – August 24 2023
The Gö Gravel Internationale rode again after the defection of three previous members who can now be found in the USA and France.
Konstantin, Andrea, Julia, and I rode the 40km Gö Feldweg Omloop but cut down by a few kilometres and with one diversion away from a cycle path now closed because of a 60 head of Galloway Cattle blocking the way.
Sadly the ´three chairs´ of Sieboldhausen is down to one plus a bench.
Thanks for the company.

Gö Nord-Sud Feldweg Omloop – August 22 2023
We combine elements of the Gö North Feldweg Omloop and the Gö Het Volk tours into a Gö Nord-Sud ride.
This tour has its own page.
No Stairway to Heaven in Gö – August 20 2023
Not a stairway to heaven rather a cool gravel pathway to the Hoher Hagen, the highest point in the area.
It was an even tougher climb than usual because the weather was hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We forgot to order alcohol free beer atop the mountain, and I did feel a wee bit tipsy from this rare imbibing of the psychoactive substance. We did sweat it out very quickly from our systems.
Beer Cold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beer Good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The farmers are busy taking advantage of the dry weather to bring in the harvest.

Mojo Care in Gö – August 18 2023
It´s important to look after your cycling Mojo and I did this by a having a few days off the bike whilst I recharged my batteries.
I did dig a new wildflower lawn which almost killed me, and I could feel twinges in my body afterward.
The humidity here has been silly high and today the rains stayed away although on route there were enough puddles to remind us of the mini monsoons we have had recently. Instead, it was hot and sticky with temperatures almost at the 30 mark.
The good thing is that after a few days rest and a ride purely for fun I feel my Mojo has not deserted me.

Gravel to Kunsthandwerkmarkt in Gö – August 12 2023
An easy spin over cool gravel via the magical Kerstlingeröder Feld and along the Gartetal to the Historische Spinnerei Gartetal for the Kunsthandwerkmarkt.
Gö Gravel design guru Craig of Windowgazing was showing his paintings at the market and so we went to visit him and support all the stall holders.
A great treat was that the machine room of the old mill was open to view.
Riding home we were diverted from our intended route because of escaped Galloway Cattle which are slowly working their way through the area (for over a month so far).

Gö Gravel Social Ride – Strade Bianche 40km Backwards – August 10 2023
Thankfully the rain had stopped, and we were treated to a warm and sunny evening for the Gö Gravel Social Ride.
Riding the Gö Strade Bianche 40km the wrong way meant there were a few more steeper hills and this made it quite a test, but it was nice to be in a group that was happy to ride together as one.
Danke to, Andrea, Isa, Jana, Jonas (voted best dressed and best bike), Josh, Julia, Konstantin, Patrick F, Patrick S, Sandra, Lydia, Alex, and Sebastian S for their company.
When I lost my coat from my pocket Konstantin rode back down the hill and found it, we gave him a big cheer!!!

An Omloop with John in Gö – August 9 2023
It was great to ride the 50km Feldweg Omloop with John from England who is visiting family in the Harz.
It was as ever interesting to talk about Germany and Britain.
I gave him a Brevet Karte as a memento.

The Great Escape in Gö – August 6 2023
We started the ride in Sunshine, and when we realised that we were heading into a slow-moving heavy rain front we turned around.
Thus, we escaped the worst of the rain, and we only got a small rinsing. We were delighted to get home minutes before thunder and lightning heralded a downpour!
Noticeable were the many farmers trying to get in the harvest in what was a short dry weather window.
We forgot to take our forage bags and could only pick up a pocket full of plums.

Gö Gravel Social Ride – Thin Red Line – August 3 2023
We followed the thin red line north out of Göttingen for the Gö Gravel Social Ride, riding nearly all Feldweg other than 0.7km of Straße. Included were 26 sectors of gravel and 5 kopfsteinpflaster.
It has become the normal for Gö for the skies to be heavy with rain clouds and we were ´treated’ amazingly to an almost rain free ride. It was a ride of a 1000 puddles.
Danke to fellow puddle splashers, Ingo, Josh, Andrea, Sandra, Isa, Alex, Patrick, Sebastian S, and Arne.
Special thanks to Patrick for not getting cross when we ate his cake by mistake in the P-Cafe.
